This Privacy Policy describes how Step Counter & Pedometer ("the App", "we", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Android application. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
a) Information You Provide Directly
- Profile data: Name, age, weight, height, and gender — entered during onboarding to calculate accurate calorie burn and personalize your step goal.
- Health logs: Sleep duration and quality, water intake, food and calorie entries, heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen (SpO2), and body weight — entered manually by you.
- Workout data: Workout type, duration, calories, distance, and steps — recorded when you start a workout session.
- Daily step goal: Your chosen daily step target.
b) Information Collected Automatically
- Step count data: Collected via your device's built-in step counter sensor using the ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION permission. Used solely to count your daily steps.
- Device sensor data: Motion sensor readings used exclusively for step counting. No raw sensor data is stored or transmitted.
c) Advertising Data
- The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect your Advertising ID and device information to serve relevant ads, governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To count and display your daily steps, distance, and calories burned.
- To calculate your BioCharge wellness score based on activity, sleep, hydration, and workout data.
- To track workout sessions and display history.
- To send move reminders and hydration reminders via local notifications.
- To display personalized daily insights based on your step progress and time of day.
- To award badges and track challenges based on your activity milestones.
- To display advertisements through Google AdMob.
3. Data Storage
All personal health data — including steps, sleep logs, water intake, food logs, workout history, body metrics, and profile information — is stored exclusively on your device using a local database. This data is never uploaded to any server and is not accessible to us or any third party. The App does not require account creation or login.
4. Permissions Used and Justification
- ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION: Required on Android 10+ to access the device step counter sensor. Used solely to count daily steps in the background.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_HEALTH: Required to run the step counting service continuously in the background while you carry your phone throughout the day.
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows the step tracking service to restart automatically after device reboot, ensuring uninterrupted step counting.
- INTERNET: Required to load advertisements via Google AdMob and to fetch remote app configuration.
- ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE / ACCESS_WIFI_STATE: Used to check internet connectivity before loading ads or remote configuration.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Required on Android 13+ to display step tracking notifications, move reminders, and hydration reminders.
- WAKE_LOCK: Used to keep the step counting service active during brief device sleep states to prevent step count loss.
- VIBRATE: Used for notification vibration alerts for move and hydration reminders.
- AD_ID (Advertising ID): Used by Google AdMob to serve personalized or non-personalized advertisements.
5. Third-Party Services
- Google AdMob: For displaying in-app advertisements. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Services: For in-app review functionality and ad serving infrastructure.
- Firebase Crashlytics: For anonymous crash reporting to help improve app stability. Does not collect personally identifiable information.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your personal health data with any third party. The only data that may be shared with third parties is advertising-related data handled directly by Google AdMob.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will delete such information promptly.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time by:
- Using the Reset All Data option in the App's Profile section.
- Uninstalling the App, which removes all locally stored data.
- Going to device Settings > Apps > Step Counter & Pedometer > Clear Data.
9. Security
All health and fitness data is stored locally on your device and protected by your device's built-in security. We do not transmit your health data over the internet. We implement reasonable technical measures to protect the integrity of locally stored data.
10. GDPR – User Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and port your data. Since all data is stored locally, you can exercise these rights directly through the App or by uninstalling it. The App displays a GDPR consent form for EEA users before showing personalized advertisements.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
