Learn Spanish ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App"). Please read this policy carefully.

            Important: By using the Learn Spanish app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our App.

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account
Profile Data: Display name you choose within the app
Learning Progress: Lesson completions, quiz scores, vocabulary progress, XP, gems, hearts, streaks, and achievement data

1.2 Automatically Collected Information

Device Information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers
Usage Data: App interactions, features used, time spent, lesson completions, learning statistics
Performance Data: Crash reports, error logs, and app performance metrics (via Firebase Crashlytics)
Analytics Data: Aggregated usage patterns and app behavior (via Firebase Analytics)

1.3 Guest Mode

If you use the app as a guest (without signing in), we store your learning progress locally on your device only. This data is not backed up and will be lost if you uninstall the app.

2. Permissions Used

Our app requires the following permissions to function properly:

2.1 Required Permissions

INTERNET: Required to load lessons, sync progress to cloud, display leaderboards, show advertisements, and stream audio pronunciation
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: To detect internet connectivity and provide offline features when appropriate
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE: To optimize data usage and provide better user experience on WiFi

2.2 Optional Permissions

VIBRATE: To provide haptic feedback during lessons for enhanced learning experience
POST_NOTIFICATIONS: To send daily learning reminders and streak notifications (Android 13+). You can disable notifications in device settings

2.3 Advertising Permissions

AD_ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID): Used by Google AdMob and Facebook Audience Network to serve personalized advertisements. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings
C2DM_RECEIVE (com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE): Required for Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

Provide and maintain the App's learning features
Save and sync your learning progress across devices
Display your profile, stats, and achievements
Enable competitive features (leaderboards, leagues)
Track daily streaks and send reminders
Deliver audio pronunciation for vocabulary words

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Where We Store Data

Local Storage: Learning progress is stored on your device using SharedPreferences and local database
Cloud Storage: When signed in, your progress is synced to Firebase Firestore (servers located in Google Cloud regions)
Backup: Android system may back up app data through Google Drive (if enabled in device settings)

5.2 Security Measures

Data transmission uses HTTPS encryption (SSL/TLS)
Firebase security rules restrict unauthorized access to user data
User authentication through Google Sign-In OAuth 2.0
No sensitive payment or credit card information is stored
No passwords are stored (authentication handled by Google)

            Note: While we implement reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.
        

6. Data Retention

Active Users: We retain your data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services
Inactive Accounts: User data may be retained indefinitely unless you request deletion
Analytics Data: Anonymized analytics data may be retained for up to 14 months
Crash Reports: Crash logs are retained for up to 90 days
Guest Users: Data stored locally only and deleted when app is uninstalled

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data in the following limited circumstances:

When you explicitly choose to share your progress or achievements on social media
When you authorize integration with third-party services

7.2 Service Providers

Third-party services listed in Section 4 that help us operate the app
These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data

7.3 Legal Requirements

When required by law, court order, or government request
To protect our rights, safety, or property
To prevent fraud or security threats

7.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred to the new entity

8. Children's Privacy

Our app is rated for ages 3+ and is designed to be family-friendly. However, it is not specifically directed at children under 13.

8.1 COPPA Compliance (USA)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent
Google Sign-In requires users to be 13+ or have parent/guardian consent
Children under 13 may use the app in Guest Mode (local storage only, no cloud sync)

8.2 Parental Controls

Parents can disable notifications in device settings
Parents can restrict data collection through device privacy settings
Guest Mode provides a safe, non-cloud-connected experience

8.3 If We Discover Underage Data Collection

If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information immediately. Parents can contact us using the information in Section 13.

9. Your Rights and Choices

9.1 Access and Update Your Data

View your profile and learning progress within the app
Edit your display name in Profile settings
Reset your progress through the Profile menu

9.2 Delete Your Data

Account Deletion: Sign out from the Profile screen. This removes cloud sync but retains local data
Complete Deletion: Uninstall the app to remove all local data. Contact us to request deletion of cloud-stored data
Progress Reset: Use "Reset Progress" in Profile settings to clear learning data while keeping your account

9.3 Control Advertising

Opt-out of Personalized Ads: Visit Google Ad Settings (https://adssettings.google.com/)
Limit Ad Tracking (iOS): Enable "Limit Ad Tracking" in device settings
Reset Advertising ID (Android): Settings > Google > Ads > Reset advertising ID
GDPR (EU Users): You will be prompted to consent to personalized ads on first app launch

9.4 Disable Notifications

Android: Settings > Apps > Learn Spanish > Notifications > Turn off
iOS: Settings > Notifications > Learn Spanish > Turn off

9.5 Export Your Data

To request a copy of your data, contact us at the email provided in Section 13. We will provide your data in a machine-readable format within 30 days.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States, where data protection laws may differ. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.

10.1 GDPR (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights:

Right to access your personal data
Right to rectification of inaccurate data
Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
Right to restrict processing

10.2 CCPA (California Users)

11. Do Not Track Signals

Our app does not respond to "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals because there is no industry standard for DNT. However, you can control ad tracking as described in Section 9.3.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will notify you of material changes by:

Posting the new Privacy Policy within the app
Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
Displaying an in-app notification (for significant changes)

Your continued use of the app after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
